Concrete Removal in Troy, IL

Troy's newer streets and its older center both have concrete that has had its day: drives cracked by heavy trucks, patios sinking toward the yard, slabs left from sheds and shops. Jon breaks it out, hauls it away and leaves a graded yard or a rock base for the next pour.

Concrete removal in Troy

Two kinds of Troy concrete

Troy sits where Interstates 55 and 70 cross Route 162, and it has grown steadily. It went from 8,524 people in 2000 to 10,960 in 2020, mostly in new subdivisions at the edges. The old center sits along Route 162, which runs through town as Center Street and Market Street.

So the concrete comes in two kinds. Near the old center around Market Street, it is aging drives, walks and garage slabs. Out in the newer neighborhoods, it is driveways and patios poured with the houses that are already cracking or settling.

Slabs from sheds and shops

On the bigger lots at the edge of town, a slab is often all that is left of a shed, a carport or an old shop. It sits in the way of a new building or simply takes up yard.

Jon breaks it out with the footings, loads it and hauls it off, then fills and grades the spot. If a new shop or pole barn is going up instead, the ground is left ready for that. The pole barn site prep guide explains what that next step needs.

Driveways under heavy use

A driveway poured for a car does not always hold up to a work truck, a camper or a loaded trailer parked on it every night. Cracks start at the edges and the apron breaks where it meets the street.

The old drive comes out, soft ground underneath is dug out and a rock base is set at the height your concrete contractor asks for. 3D does not pour concrete. The concrete removal cost guide covers what changes the price. A thicker drive and a firmer base are worth discussing with your concrete contractor before the pour.

Ground that drains toward Silver Creek

Most of Troy drains east into small tributaries of Silver Creek, and the west edge drains toward Canteen Creek. On gentle slopes like these, water that cannot get off a patio runs under it instead. Water standing beside a slab freezes and lifts it at the edges, which is where cracks usually start.

When the slab is out, the ground can be reshaped so the new pour sheds water toward the yard's natural fall. Yard drainage in Troy covers swales and buried lines, and grading in Troy handles bigger reshaping.

Locates, the city and clean concrete

JULIE marks the buried lines before any breaking or digging, with at least two working days of notice required. Ask the City of Troy's Building and Zoning office on East Market Street what the replacement work needs before the concrete crew is booked.

Old concrete does not have to end up in a landfill. Illinois EPA classes uncontaminated broken concrete without protruding rebar as clean construction or demolition debris, which can go to a permitted fill operation instead. Patio and walk jobs may be simpler on the permit side, but the call is still worth making.

One free estimate

Jon looks at the slab, checks the thickness and whether there is wire or rebar in it, and gives one figure with the hauling and base work in it. The estimate is free and he prices it himself.

If a shed or carport is still standing on the slab, demolition in Troy handles it first. There is no dumpster to rent and nothing left on the drive for you to sort out. The rest of the work 3D does in town is on the Troy excavating page.

What it includes

What that covers

  • Driveways and aprons. Cracked or broken drives taken out and a rock base set for the new pour.
  • Shed and shop slabs. Old slabs and footings removed and the ground graded for what comes next.
  • Patios. Sinking or outgrown patios broken out and hauled off.
  • Walks and steps. Front walks and steps removed so they can be replaced or widened.

Troy and the towns nearby

Troy borders Glen Carbon and Maryville, and Edwardsville is a short drive north. Concrete removal in Glen Carbon is mostly subdivision patios and drives on rolling lots, and concrete removal in Edwardsville covers the county seat. Maryville, just west, and the farm ground east toward Highland along US 40 are part of the same run. Every town 3D works is on the service area page.

Questions about this work

Questions people ask

Not seeing yours? Call (217) 710-0606 and ask Jon, or read the guides.

Can you remove an old shop slab so we can build a new one?

Yes. The slab and footings are broken out and hauled away, and the ground is filled and graded. If a pole barn or shop is going up next, say so and the site is left ready for that.

Do you pour the new driveway?

No. 3D removes the old drive, takes out soft ground and leaves a rock base at the height your concrete contractor wants. The concrete crew pours it. Tell Jon the pour date and the base will be ready for it.

Where does the old concrete go?

It is loaded and hauled off in the dump truck. Under Illinois EPA rules, clean broken concrete without rebar sticking out counts as clean construction or demolition debris and can go to a permitted fill site.

Does the City of Troy need to approve the new pour?

Ask the Building and Zoning office on East Market Street before the concrete crew is booked. Breaking out the old slab is the simple part. What goes back is what the city may want to see.
