The work
What grading covers
Grading is about water
A yard that ponds. A drive that washes. A shop that takes water across the floor. Those are all grade problems. Shaping the ground so the water leaves is most of what dirt work is for.
Rough grade and final grade
Rough grade gets the shape and the fall right. Final grade is the pass that makes the ground ready to seed or ready to pour on. Which one you need depends on what is going on top. Say which when you ask for a quote.
Cut and fill
The method is the same at every size of job. Work out where the water is meant to go. Then cut and fill until it goes there on its own.

Grading around Hillsboro
Lanes, farm drives and rural ground
Around Hillsboro and Montgomery County the work is often lanes, farm drives and the ground around sheds and barns. For the rock on top, see gravel driveways in Hillsboro.
Yards that hold water
Water running toward the house. A low spot that stays wet for days after a rain. A yard that erodes every spring. The fix is almost always grade. The ground is re-shaped so the water has a path away. Where it needs a pipe, the same crew trenches drainage lines.
Pads for shops, sheds and houses
A pad has to be cut level and the lot shaped to shed water before the concrete goes in. Getting that right costs less now than after the foundation is poured. If the ground is overgrown, land clearing in Hillsboro comes first.

How it goes
How a grading job goes
Tell us the job
Call, text or send the form. A photo of the ground tells us more than a description does. Show where the water sits and where the truck can get in.
Jon prices it himself
Jon quotes every job. You are not talking to a call centre, and you are not getting a number from someone who has not looked at the ground.
The machines turn up
Excavator, dozer, skid steer or the truck. Whatever the job needs, with an operator who has run it before.
It gets left clean
The job is not done while there is a pile sat in your yard.
FAQs
Grading questions
What is the difference between rough grade and final grade?
Rough grade gets the shape and the fall right. Final grade is the pass that makes the ground ready to seed or ready to pour on.
What happens to the leftover dirt?
It is graded back on site or hauled away, whichever was agreed at quote stage. That is decided before the work starts, not after.
Can you give a grading price over the phone?
Sometimes, for straightforward work where a photo tells the whole story. Anything involving a cut, drainage or access we would rather look at first.
Can you bring in rock or dirt as well?
Yes. Rock, sand and dirt are delivered by the truckload, and spoil is hauled off.
Is the quote free?
Yes. Every quote is free and Jon does them himself.
Do you take small jobs?
Yes. Being based in Hillsboro rather than an hour away is what makes small jobs worth doing.
