Concrete Removal in Edwardsville, IL
Edwardsville has concrete from every era, from old walks and steps on the blocks near downtown to driveways and patios in the subdivisions that took the city past 26,000 people. Jon breaks it out, hauls it off and leaves either a graded yard or a rock base for whoever pours next.

Concrete removal in Edwardsville
An old county seat with newer edges
Edwardsville was incorporated in 1818 and is the Madison County seat. The first settler arrived in 1805, and the Saint Louis Street historic district has houses dating back to 1809. Around that old core, the city has kept growing, from 21,491 people in 2000 to 26,808 in 2020.
So the concrete calls come from both ends. In the older neighborhoods it is steps, walks and narrow drives that have heaved or crumbled. In the newer subdivisions it is driveways that settled at the garage and patios the family has outgrown.
Walks and steps on the older blocks
On Saint Louis Street, in LeClaire and on the other older streets, the concrete is often close to the house and close to big trees. Front steps pull away from the porch. Walks get lifted by roots and crack into slabs that trip people.
Work that close to a foundation is done with care, and the broken pieces are carried out rather than pushed across the lawn. If your house is in one of the historic districts, ask the city about any rules for the replacement before you plan it.
Subdivision driveways and patios
Most of the driveway calls come from the newer parts of town. The slab dropped where it meets the garage, or the cracks have spread far enough that patching stopped working. Patios come out because they are too small, or because a bigger one is going in.
Jon breaks the old concrete out, loads it and hauls it off. Then the ground is either graded for grass or covered with a rock base at the height your concrete contractor asks for. 3D does not pour concrete. The concrete removal cost guide explains what sets the price.
What the loess does under a slab
The uplands here are blanketed in loess, wind-blown silt that the Illinois State Geological Survey describes as thickest near the bluffs above the American Bottom and thinning to the east. It digs easily and makes good ground to build on when it is kept dry.
When it stays wet, though, silty ground loses strength. Water that gets under a slab and freezes there is a common reason drives and walks crack and drop. Clearing out soft soil and setting a firm rock base is what gives the next slab a fair chance.
The city's driveway permit and JULIE
The City of Edwardsville's Public Works Department handles a right-of-way excavation and driveway permit, which covers driveway replacement, repair or expansion and sidewalk work. If the job touches the apron or the public walk, ask Public Works before the concrete crew is booked.
Anything that digs needs a JULIE locate first. The law asks for at least two working days of notice before excavation starts. Gas and water services often run under the front walk or the drive, so the marks matter even on a job that only goes a few inches down.
One figure, then the next trade
Jon looks at the concrete, checks for a thickened edge or wire mesh and gives you one free figure with the hauling in it. It is all part of the demolition and debris removal service, and he quotes every job himself.
If the drive is being replaced with rock instead of concrete, gravel driveways picks up from there. If water is what wrecked the slab, yard drainage in Edwardsville can fix the cause at the same time. The rest of 3D's work in town is on the Edwardsville excavating page.

The same concrete work runs through the towns around Edwardsville. Concrete removal in Glen Carbon, just to the south, is mostly subdivision drives and patios on rolling lots. Concrete removal in Collinsville deals with older concrete in an older city, and concrete removal in Troy covers the fast-growing town to the southeast. Collinsville is reached down Route 157 or Route 159, so none of it is a long haul for the truck.

Questions people ask
Not seeing yours? Call (217) 710-0606 and ask Jon, or read the guides.
Do I need a permit to replace a driveway in Edwardsville?
The City of Edwardsville's Public Works Department handles a right-of-way excavation and driveway permit that covers driveway replacement, repair and expansion. Ask them before the concrete crew is booked, especially if the apron or public walk is involved.
Do you pour the new concrete?
No. 3D breaks out and hauls the old concrete, then leaves either graded ground or a rock base at the height your concrete contractor wants. A concrete crew does the pour.
Can you remove front steps without damaging the house?
Yes. Steps and walks next to a foundation are broken and lifted out with care instead of being dragged. Point out anything fragile nearby, such as window wells or a meter, when Jon looks at the job.
Why did my driveway drop at the garage?
Usually water. Silty soil that stays wet under a slab loses strength, and the fill next to a foundation keeps settling for years. A firm rock base under the new pour gives it something solid to sit on.
