Brush Removal and Lot Clearing in O'Fallon, IL

O'Fallon has grown over old farm ground, and the fence rows and field edges that used to divide it did not go away. They grew into brush. People here call about the wild strip behind the fence, a lot they bought to build on, or a few acres at the edge of town. Jon clears it and hauls it off.

Land Clearing in O'Fallon

Farm lines inside a growing city

German settlers came to O'Fallon in the 1850s looking for farmland, and for a long time that is what surrounded the town. Since then the city has grown to about 32,000 people, and new housing has spread onto those old fields.

A subdivision gets built to the edge of a parcel, but the hedge or fence row along that edge often stays. Decades on it is a tangle of honeysuckle, saplings and vines, and it creeps into the yards on either side every year. Some of those strips are also drainage paths, so they need to stay open once they are cleared.

The strip behind the fence

A typical O'Fallon version of the job is a narrow band of brush behind a row of houses. It shades the lawn, holds mosquitoes and hides whatever was dumped back there. Getting a machine to it is usually the main question, so Jon looks at gates and side yards first.

The brush is cut and pulled, stumps come out and the debris is loaded for the dump truck. The ground is then graded smooth so it can be mowed. If the strip doubles as a drainage path, it is shaped so water keeps moving, and yard drainage in O'Fallon covers the rest.

Building lots and acreage

Out at the edges of O'Fallon, people still buy a few acres to build a house or a shop. That ground is often half woods, half old pasture. Before anything is dug, the site has to be cleared properly.

That means pulling stumps and roots rather than cutting them flush, since buried wood rots and leaves soft spots under a slab or a drive. Once it is open, excavation in O'Fallon can cut the pad. The guide to brush clearing in Illinois explains what is involved. A cleared site also shows how water moves across it, which helps place the house or the shop.

Fences, sheds and old junk

Clearing often comes before a new fence. The City of O'Fallon has an FAQ on fence placement, and its Building and Inspections Division handles permits, so ask before posts go in along a cleared line.

Brush lines hide things: a rusted shed, a pile of old block, a falling-down playset. Those can come out on the same visit through demolition in O'Fallon, so the strip ends up clean rather than just cut back. Mention what is in there before the quote, and it is priced in with the clearing. If a new shed is going up where an old one stood, the city's FAQ on sheds and accessory buildings is worth a read too.

Locates and the limits

Pulling a stump means digging, so JULIE is called at 811 at least two working days ahead. In a subdivision, cable, phone and power lines can run along the back of the lots, which is exactly where the brush is.

3D clears brush, saplings, small trees and stumps. Large trees right next to a house are a job for a tree service with climbing gear, and Jon will tell you if that is what you need. Trees you want to keep get marked at the start so they are worked around.

What it costs to clear

Price depends on how thick the growth is, how much ground there is and how easily the truck gets in. Jon walks it with you and quotes it himself, with hauling included. The quote is free.

The service is laid out on the land clearing and brush removal page, and everything else 3D does in town is on the O'Fallon excavating page. Send a photo of the brush and of the way in, and mention what the ground is for afterward: lawn, a fence line, a garden or a building pad. The finish grade is set to suit that use, and it is all in the same figure.

Questions about this work

Questions people ask

Not seeing yours? Call (217) 710-0606 and ask Jon, or read the guides.

Can you get a machine to the brush behind my O'Fallon house?

Usually. The skid steer fits through many gates and side yards, and the route is checked before quoting. If there is no way in from your side, sometimes the strip can be reached from a common area or a neighbour's yard with permission.

Do you pull the stumps or just cut them?

Stumps are pulled and the roots dug out, then the holes are filled and graded. Stumps left in the ground rot over time and leave soft spots, which matters if anything will be built there.

Do I need a permit to clear brush in O'Fallon?

Ask the City of O'Fallon's Building and Inspections Division before work starts. Mention anything planned for the cleared ground, such as a fence or a shed, since the city publishes separate FAQs on both.

How do I get a price for land clearing in O'Fallon?

Call or text (217) 710-0606, or email 3dexcavatinginc@gmail.com, with the address and a photo of the brush. Jon walks the ground and gives one free figure that includes hauling the debris away.
